Ep 196 CSCA & TSOA Track Day

I'm with John Stokes at One Raceway with a rather nice TR8.

He's just come back off the circuit.

Sweaty.

So I'm going to talk to John about the car and the day specifically because it's an interesting track day down here.

John kind of does double duties.

He's with the Triumph Sports Club and he's also with the Maserati Club and is the club captain of the Maserati Club and encouraging guys to come down.

So first of all, let's talk about the TR8.

Tell me about it.

Well, this car I've only had for a couple of years.

I've had a Stag I've been running and a Mark 1 PI sedan SB car.

So I decided to get another TR8 as this one came up with a special sort of motor and it was built for a group called SB, which you can do open racing in, but it has to be 3.5 litre aluminium V8.

So it's based around the Buick Rover V8.

Most of the components came from the wedge shop in Boston in America.

The guy that had it before me spent 50 grand on the engine and never got it to run.

So it's been a challenge.

Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong.

But it's coming together really nicely.

And it's so much fun to drive because it's so short wheelbase.

It only weighs about 1,000 kilos.

And it's just on 300 horsepower on the dyno.

Yeah.

It's a lot of fun.

It's point and squirt.

Well, my second and third cars were TR7s.

Never progressed to a TR8 because they were quite rare in the UK when I was looking for the TR7s.
