Locked in with My Abuser: Institutional Neglect at Havenwyck Hospital

In this video, Eric shares his harrowing experience of institutional failure and abuse during his stay at Havenwyck Hospital in Auburn Hills, Michigan. At just 12 years old, Eric was placed in a shared room with a 17-year-old patient. For three months, he endured severe, ongoing sexual abuse behind closed doors. Despite facility protocols meant to ensure the safety and separation of vulnerable minors, staff and security repeatedly failed to protect him. In one specific instance, hospital security walked in on an active assault, separated the two, but took no further action—no incident report was filed, no investigation was launched, and Eric was never moved to a safe environment, leaving him trapped with his abuser.
