Israel's Central Elections Committee has voted to ban the country's two main Arab majority political lists from next month's parliamentary election.
The ban will leave Palestinian citizens of Israel without their main representatives in the Israeli parliament, the Nesset.
The committee voted to disqualify two separate groups.
The first is the Joint List, an alliance of Hadash, Balad and Tahal, and the second is Ra'am, also called the United Arab List, which is running on its own.
Both parties rely on support from Palestinian citizens of Israel who make up about one-fifth of the country's population.
The Supreme Court is expected to review the decisions this week and has overturned previous attempts to exclude Arab parties and candidates.
In other news this week, Yemen's Saudi-backed government forces have conducted multiple air and ground operations in the southwestern governorate of Taiz as fighting intensifies with the Iran-backed Houthi group.
According to the Yemeni Military Media Center, dozens of Houthi fighters, including field commanders, were killed or wounded in the latest attacks.
The casualty figures have not been independently verified.
Al Jazeera reported that more than 146,000 people have been displaced since the fighting began in July.
The latest fighting follows a period of calm after a UN-brokered truce in 2022.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz following US and Israeli strikes against Iran in February.
The waterway normally carries about 20% of global oil trade.
Yemeni government forces have also accused the Houthis of using modified Iranian air defense weapons that they say threaten civilian aviation.
Yemeni military spokesperson Majed Al-Nazili said the weapons had been converted into missiles using thermal guidance and launched towards international air routes over the southern Red Sea.
The claims have not been independently verified and there has been no immediate response from the Houthis or Iran.
In other news this week, police fired water cannons at protesters in India amid mounting fury over allegations the country's elections are rigged.
The Electoral Commission has removed 130 million names from the voter rolls as part of what it calls a special intensive revision.
Now protesters are calling for its chief, Ganesh Kumar, to resign or be arrested.
