Last week Charley said losing to Deshaun Watson would be a low moment for him as a sports fan, and then said it wasn't going to happen. It happened. So we flipped a coin to decide who got to be…
To be a Tampa Bay fan, to be a Tampa Bay fan this year and to lose the game that we lost against Cleveland Browns had me trying to gain some perspective.
So here it is.
Baker was bad and Baker has been bad and not just these first two games.
But since last year and well into last year, and I feel like Bucs fans are not being overreactive or prisoner of the moment because Bucs fans have lived through these quarterbacks.
Tim Rattay, Rob Johnson, Byron Lefwich, Luke McCown, Josh Johnson, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown, Bruce Grodkowski.
Chris Sims, though, shout out.
Chris Sims had a Bucs, real Bucs fans know he had a moment there before he was like spleen completely ruptured and was rushed to the ER.
Mike Glennon.
Yeah,
that was tough.
Do you remember watching Mike Glennon's neck? Brian Greasy, Sean King, Trent Dilfer, Josh Freeman, who we legitimately thought was going to be our first ever franchise quarterback.
And of course, and this does tie back to you and I now where we are now connected through this one.
james winston so we're allowed we know we we know bad quarterback play and we're allowed to call it for what it is even if we like love the spirit of baker and even if we know he's been injured etc etc so that's that's the first point that i started with is i just have to acknowledge you can't just throw todd bowles under the bus for everything
so i wanted to start with with baker
but since we're at todd bowles a defensive coach, I would like to tell you, Sean, these are the last three years of our defensive guru, his passing defense numbers in a league with 32 teams.
29th, 29th, 27th pass defense.
And the thing that I think is just like a nice salve for other fans out there, so once again, you don't feel crazy about The NFL has adjusted to the way we play defense.
We've never seen more quarterbacks do quick throws, screens, depend on people to have like crazy yak numbers.
And we are the defense for that.
Like check down to the tight end.
Our entire defensive model is to try to have like misdirection, to try to blitz as much as we can and to really get pressure on the quarterback, which we don't do.
and teams just go, okay, that's cool.
We hope that you do that for the entire game, and they've said that for the last four years, and it's getting real tough.
It's getting real tough to watch because I feel like the thing that makes you go crazy, the craziest about this, Sean, as a Buccaneers fan, is it's a running meme on Twitter, on the subreddit, everywhere.
It's like a running meme that if we're going up against a quarterback, like in this case, Deshaun Watson, people thought it was, Cleveland was already leaking that it was gonna be his last game.
