Maybe they're doing a little smokescreen thing with Houston.

They did, I think, elevate Josh Johnson, right, as kind of an emergency third quarterback.

So that also is like, well, okay.

So that's an exciting potential shot in the arm for the Bengals' defensive line rotation on the one hand, and Probably not going to have BJ Hill this week.

Zach did also mention that elevating Josh Johnson as a contingency this week is a possibility just in case.

So while it doesn't sound like Joe Burrow is 100%, I'm with Joe Dannemann here on this one where if he doesn't show signs of limitation...

I don't think there's any real reason to be concerned, and we'll see what that looks like for him on Sunday.

But then they have these years where the attrition wins.

Now, surrounding a 6-11 2024 campaign are a 12-win season last year with a playoff win, a 12-win season and a trip to the Super Bowl in 2023, a 13-win season that took them to the doorstep of the big game again because they had to play Josh Johnson in Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game, and a 10-win season where they ran through the NFC playoffs and almost knocked off the Rams, had a fourth-quarter lead in that year's NFC Championship game, And then again in 2020, a lean year, but another Super Bowl appearance with 13 wins in 2019.

This year, they basically just got healthy and then supplemented some of those parts with more really good veteran talent like Mike Evans and Osa Adigizua, Pro Bowl caliber players.

Then they bring in quality scheme fits like Debo Samuel, like Christian Kirk.

That's weird.

But anyway, the last time I checked, it was like Josh Johnson, 40 years old now.

He's played for like half the teams in the league, two-thirds of the team in the league.

Like literally the best option would be Brett Ripien.

... on clear passing downs, and I wasn't sure if Shep was utilizing him as a spy or if he really wanted to showcase his potential talents in coverage.

And Gill Howard said that on, on some of those he was a spy, and you can trace the roots of that back to the play he made in the preseason opener when he chased down Josh Johnson on that third down scramble, where Johnson gets out of the pocket and Gill Howard, like, shakes off a double team, fights through a clear hole that went uncalled, and beat Johnson to the six and chased him out of bounds before he could pick up the first down.

And he said Shep had kind of had that image in his head throughout training camp, and when he, and when he came to Gill Howard this past week with the idea of sort of dropping into coverage, that was one of the inspirations of it.

And the other inspiration of it, he said, is that at, at one point in training camp- With pads on, he hit, let me make sure I get this number right.

So it looks like by early account anyways, they've got a real playmaker in Gil Howard.

All I would think is that Tyler Shook was born and Josh Johnson was like a junior in college.
