High-performing men often run successful organizations while running their physical bodies into the ground. In this conversation, host Daniel Weinberg sits down with…
So when a 50-year-old man comes into your clinic, he says, I'm tired, not sleeping well, my brain isn't sharp, my sex drive is in the dumps, my recovery is taking longer from, you know, when I'm doing the workout.
How much of that is genuinely aging attributed to the fact that you're aging?
I'd say two out of the three men that kind of come into my practice, that is half the equation.
So if we, and you kind of get some of the statistics, when we hit our 30s, Things like growth hormone, things like testosterone that decline by 1% to 2% a year, right? That's assuming all things being equal.
But let's say you haven't done a good job of kind of cleaning out microplastics from your system, things that act as xenoestrogens, act like estrogen-like activity in the body, right? That can suddenly go from 1% to 2%, decline 2% to 3%, 3% to 5%.
And let's say your baseline, a men's baseline testosterone, let's say you walk around in your 30s at 400 for your total testosterone, and you now have enough lifestyle factors, be it those microplastics that I talk about, be it high carbohydrate diet, not enough sleep, high stress, not enough protein intake, all these sorts of things kind of put you closer to that 5% decline mark.
So it's kind of a combination, right? So it's what naturally happens as we age, accelerated by the potential lifestyle and environmental factors.
There's a lot of different kind of about 11 to 12 different theories of the aging process.
The one that I kind of see the most in my practice that play out in high performing men is the fact that they're undercharged.
Cells are not producing enough energy, specifically mitochondrial cells, right? And it's this concept of redox, which is recharging and it's basically balancing the stress on the system so it can more efficiently produce energy.
And before any of this healing and optimization takes place, Your cells have to be charged enough because the healing is a very energy dependent process.
So if your cells are drained, like nothing that you're throwing at them is really taking.
