Autoimmune and paraneoplastic disorders affecting the nervous system affect multiple neural systems, including the brain responsible for sleep and wakefulness.
Although rare, the sleep manifestations can be dramatic, and both neurologists and sleep specialists should be aware of these syndromes, as occasionally such patients will present to them.
