There was rumblings from Marc Stein and Jake Fischer about the Mavericks being forerunners, uh, or front-runners, rather, to get Walter Clayton, and moments ago, literally like five minutes ago, Walter Clayton Jr. is committing to the Dallas Mavericks on a two-way contract, ClutchSports CEO Rich Paul says.

So Jace, the biggest reason that this is a robbery, this is a steal, it's not because he's an amazing player or had an amazing year last year.

It is because you just got a first-round pick, the 18th overall to be exact, from the Grizzlies back in 2025 o- on a two-way deal now, just one year later, and this is no risk and potentially very high reward.

Yeah, and this is a risk that we've seen the Mavericks take this past off-season.

You talk about Zach LaVine saying while he hasn't lived up to what the expectations are, you feel like there's a lot you can get out of him, and the connection between Dusty May and Walter Clayton is the real reason why this was done.

Uh, so obviously really excited to see what he can do, but the big question will be what do the adjustments look like? What will his time with the Texans Legend, Texas Legends look like? And of course, we got a game here in two and a half hours, so, uh, looking at what the holes are in this offense can tell you-

Yeah, it was a, uh, a buzzer beater move here, and again, it's because he just officially cleared waivers, and if they had gotten him without clearing waivers, of course it would've been a, uh, $4.1 million, whatever it was, cap hit.

And on the Memphis side of things, again, we know a couple days ago they waived the number 18th overall pick.

Now, the reason for that was strictly kind of cap reasons, right? They kind of put themselves into a corner, and gotta give credit to Marc Stein where it's due here.

But there's a tidbit about this I wanna dive into a little bit more before we do a quick word from our sponsor.
