Mike PetersonGuestI've got a lot of questions, a lot of topics because, one, this park, um, and I thought about this too, and, and Rich, um, hats off to you and your crew.
Um, I, I've been here, what? Almost 10 years, and I've, I've seen this park just transform, um, from a, a really great park to, to even a better park.
Um, and obviously we're gonna talk a little bit about the history here in a minute, but let's dive in.
Rich, you wanna, you wanna kinda start off the conversation of how Griffin Bike Park started? [upbeat music]

Um, the Griffin family, um, w- were big mountain bikers, and one of their sons, Dale, went into the Army, went to Afghanistan, and unfortunately lost his life over there.

So the family wanted to build a trail, one trail to remember him by, and got together with a bunch of local crazies, and we built 32 miles of trail.

Um, our park is still very much a memorial to Dale and all the guys we've lost since 9/11, and, uh, we continue to keep it that way.

Bro- Brother Dale is... or Brother Blake is out there building trail and building features, and, uh, Gene and, and Clint are out there building enormous, uh, [laughs] gantries and whatnot for people to sit under.
Mike, do you wanna kinda touch on that little bit about the actual land and the land acquisition possibly?

Yeah, so, you know, when it actually became part of Vigo County Parks, I d- I don't really know.

I think it was a, uh, a road place for bikers to go and horsemen to, uh, to, to ride around, and, and, uh, it was a, it was a refuge place for the county, you know, getting rid of, uh, storm debris, sto- stocking gravel and materials like that.

So, uh, when, uh... whenever we're digging in the ground, it's kind of a, "Ooh, what do we have here?" So-

... um, or, "Don't build over there because of, you know, X, Y, Z." But, you know, over the course of the last several years, uh, you know, the, the Brother Griffins, the, the shepherds, um, have all, uh, in the county, have come together and just dumped, uh, a lot of effort into the park in terms of getting the restrooms built and, uh, the, uh, HQ built and, uh, and, uh, now the, the, uh, jump line and, and, uh, pump track that we're working on currently.
