How do you turn a simple business idea into an international brand and become one of Australia's most recognizable entrepreneurs? On this episode of LegendsNLeaders, we sit down with Janine Allis…
That's awesome.
So, you know, as you were building it, like how did you initially start out from a financial perspective? Like, how did you get the money together to get the first, the first boost going and, you know, what did it take to even go and scale from there? Like from financially, how did you kind of do that? Like how did you-
... use the capital?
And, um, and with a little bit of debt, with leasing debt, we opened our first store and then we started franchising.
So as soon as you start franchising, um, you've-- And I didn't even know what franchising was.
Um, but when we st- first started franchising, uh, it, you, they... people actually use their capital.
But equally, the thing I loved about franchising is that the biggest thing with when you grow brands is how do you get the people who run your store to feel like they own it? 'Cause that is, that is, you know, 'cause you have this passion of how you want your business to be, and it's very difficult to have that if you grow to 100 stores, 200 stores, 600 stores.
And so with, um, so with me, I had, I had probably over 800 people wanting a franchise.
So I sh- I was looking for the right type, that really passionate person about that customer experience.
Hmm.
So-
...
so how did you, like initially, how did you pitch what you were building to...
Like, you mentioned that a lot of these people int- were interested in franchising, but how did you kind of pitch what you were building to get to that point that you had this interest in it? Was it just they saw the success of the first store and they thought, "Okay, hey, we're gonna reach out"?
That's awesome.
