Hello and welcome to a special film episode of Key Battles of American History.

I'm your host, James Early.

As always.

Well, listeners, if you've listened to this podcast for very long, you know that I love movies, especially historical movies and especially war movies.

And in all my major series, I've kind of worked in some film reviews with different people.

Did that with World War II, World War I, Mexican War, even the War of 1812 and the Vietnam War and the Korean War.

Since we've been doing the Revolutionary War, I wanted to do at least a few films.

I didn't want to do too many.

To be honest with you, there aren't a lot of good recent films on the Revolutionary War.

There's quite a few older ones, but listeners, remember that I'm not always a huge fan of older movies.

There are a lot of them I do really like, but I'm definitely biased toward more recent ones.

But I did want to at least do a few because I imagine that some of you may wonder, like, what's your opinion on this movie or that movie? So to help me out, I brought in a friend of mine from Philadelphia, and he is no stranger to this podcast.

I frequently mention his podcast by way of recommendation.

We've helped each other out.

We met in person one time several years ago.

And my guest today is Michael Troy.

Mike is the host of the outstanding American Revolution podcast, which I listen to all of the episodes from beginning to end, several hundred episodes.

You know I've mentioned it, listeners, several times in passing, as I said.

Mike goes into great depth.

It's just like a master class in the American Revolution.

In my series, I just scratch the surface.

Mine's very much Revolutionary War 101, but Mike's is worthy of a master's level class.

And I do, once again, recommend that you listen to that But he has been studying the American Revolution all of his life.

And he's especially been studying in great depth over the last 10, 15 years or so in doing his podcast.

So Mike is going to talk about today's film with me.

Today's film is The Crossing from 2000.

And I'm going to give you some of the basics about the film.

But before I do, just I want to see if you have anything to say, Mike.

No, I'm just happy to be here.

I love movies.

Unlike you, I guess I love old movies as much as I do new ones.

But yeah, the historical ones are always interesting, and this is certainly a good one to talk about.

Yes.

Well, I don't hate old movies.

I tend to.

I like some of them, but I don't know.

I just kind of the pacing is often slow for me, and I get bored, and I don't know.

Maybe I'm just too much of a creature of the modern age, but...

So we're not going to do things like Johnny Tremaine and some of those other ones from long ago.

But we are going to do The Crossing.
