It's Not About You

So even when I didn't go to a charismatic church, we still sang.

It was hymns.

It was a lady on an organ.

It was a guy behind the pulpit.

And it was us standing with a hymnal book.

But we still sang before we did anything else.

Singing was at the beginning of the service.

And then I got into the charismatic world.

I go to Bethel for the first time.

And I'm like, what is going on with all these people? I don't even understand this.

They're raising their hands.

They're singing in a different language.

You know the weirdest part for me? When I was 17, I first started, first time ever really kind of coming into a charismatic environment.

You know what was the weirdest? Was that they would sing after the song was over.

So this is Hosea and Integrity days.

Some of you in this room, you're not old enough for this.

This is like mid-90s, right? Early 90s, actually.

And they'd be playing, and they'd finish the song, and they'd continue to play, and everybody would just start singing their own song they were making up to the Lord.

And I remember at 17 going, what's happening right now? The song's over.

Song's over.

Why are you still singing right now? It was weird.

But whether you come from a charismatic, whether you come from Baptist, wherever you come from, we come into church, you're like, why do we sing? You're like, I don't know, it's just because we sing.

It's what we do at the beginning.

Why do I get a salad before the main course at a restaurant? I don't know, I just do.

And that's kind of what it is.
