Um, I'd resigned from Yalumba to go independent a month before COVID, and, um, I had a huge amount of work in hand domestically and abroad for 2020 and 2021.
Um, you realize very quickly that you're pretty much defined by what you do, your job.
Um, whether you're an artist or whether you're a builder or whether you're a winemaker, you're pretty much defined by your job, and I had no job.
I'd borrowed a huge amount off my brother to go on a around the world tour at the end of 2019, and I still had a year of payments to go on a brand-new Hilux.
Um, and, um, you sorta sit there and you go, "Well, what am I gonna do?" N- no one's, no one's traveling.
So what do you do? So, um, [smacks lips] uh, I went to work, uh, cutting fruit at a local orchard.
Um, some folks that, uh, that were growers for Yalumba that I'd met at growers' nights, you know, that got to know through that-
And they said, "You don't wanna start making jam, do you?" I said, "Mate, I'm, I'm there." And, uh, I started a reveg, native reveg program on my property 'cause I got eight acres at Angaston, and, um, I needed a water cart for the reveg.
