And it was banned when it was released as a single from the debut album by Cold Chisel.

or people from from the british isles i should say lots lots of scots and people from the north of england and and they were they brought not only their skills but their passions so in many ways adelaide was um you know quite advanced for the rest of australia and keeping up with international versions, music versions.

So we don't want to talk a lot about Cold Chisel because, you know, we're here to talk about your solo.

But the level of, you know, success that you've had with Cold Chisel, a lot of the music being written by yourself, I guess if I went back to that kid at Grafton High or wherever you went to school and said that's what you'd be doing for the rest of your life, I guess you would have looked a little bit surprised.

very surprised yes yeah because you know that that didn't this kind of path in life didn't exist at that time and in fact it didn't it didn't exist when in the first few years that we were together

yeah Yeah.

So, I mean, ultimately after Chisels, you had other bands, not organization, Charlie, I always get them out in the wrong order, Charlie, Don and Tex, Tex, Charlie and Don, you know the one I mean, Catfish.

You went on to do other things, but you were kind of always associated with Chisels, weren't you? And I guess that was to do with the success level.

Yes, I mean, in pure commercial terms, you know, Cold Chisels was the most successful thing I've done.

We just come in and go, oh, geez, you've got one by Bon Jovi.

Oh, you've got Cold Chisel.

But we just mix it up.

And look, I think we occasionally will send a little bit of a message and say, are you okay for Thursdays? You got your list and all your CDs and whatnot ready for Thursday show.

It's a double CD I picked up.

And I'm going to play Love Gun.

And then I'm going to follow that up with Cold Chisel.

Now, I'm going to give you a clue.

The Shire that Rob was in is featured in a song that Ian Moss took to number one after the breakup of Cold Chisel.

And I know the song.

It's a great song, isn't it?

Well, I'm putting that off until episode 197, which will be next month.

The reason is, about a week and a half ago, I got an email saying, "Would you like to speak to Don Walker of the Suave Fucks, of Cold Chisel, of Tex, Don & Charlie?" And my response was, "Absolutely" because, you know, it's Don Walker.

It's his second time on this show, so I'm thrilled it means I didn't screw things up too badly the first time we spoke.

He has a new album out, it's absolutely terrific, called Love Songs, and in this conversation that you're about to hear, we're going to speak about that album plus a whole bunch of other things.

I really, really dug this conversation.

Got to find out some wonderful things about his approach to writing songs, quite differently in some respects to what I imagined.

I get to find out something really fascinating about the late, great Steve Prestwich, the drummer of Cold Chisel, and his knowledge of jazz standards and of show tunes.
