And the fourth, and the fourth brother, who I used to train with at Fitness First at Dee Why.

I didn't know until I went out once and met Liam, and the other brother was there.

When my dad was growing up on the northern beaches of Sydney, he was a teenager and, um, you know, a budding pilot but still at school.

And, um, his mum, who had, uh, some, um, personal mental health issues, you know, walked out of the house at Dee Why one, we think, early morning and, um, and, and vanished.

And a night dress was found on the sand at Dee Why Beach and, um, uh, and, and nothing else.

And, um, there was no body.

I don't think there was ever an inquest.

For 600K these days, I don't reckon you can buy much, can you?

You can basically get a 50 square meter studio in Dee Why, where we work, or if you're prepared to travel-

... an hour away from Dee Why Northern Beaches, you'll probably get a two-bedroom apartment in, in other parts of Sydney.

Unbelievable.

But here, four hours out of Sydney, um, on a beach, it's quite incredible actually what you can buy.

... it's a death wish.

I saw, when I lived in Dee Why and Oscar was really little, we were all, met some friends there or whatever, but I was watching this kid, he would've been about four or five, on the swing at a decent height.

The parent was, was there attentive, and then like for a split second, like someone's distracted him, and another kid's walked in front, and it went into sl- like, it went into slow mo for me.

Oh.

I know people that have lived...

My, my mum and dad lived down there for a little while, uh, before they moved in, uh, in, onto a little cottage that we built for them in, in our backyard and, uh, they lived down that way and I used to take Mum and Dad up there to, uh, have a look at Stoney Range, especially now 'cause the orchids are in flower.

Uh, and it was always a spectacular sight, and at the moment it would look absolutely brilliant.

Give us the legal background to that, please, Lee.

Yeah, not a lot, Sarah, other than she disappeared when my dad was a teenager.

Dad lived on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, near Dee Why, and, um, uh, you know, his mum and dad, they'd married when Gladys was pretty young.

Dad loved his mother very dearly and, and his father, and then she disappeared one day, and, um, he never saw her again.

And I heard probably more about it from my mother as I was growing up because we just understood that it was something we didn't wanna talk to Dad about because, um, it would probably upset him.

But Mum told us that, you know, she had mental health issues and that they'd found her nightdress on the beach, and that was about as much as I knew.

And then as I got older and as Dad got older, we did have some conversations about it, and Dad talked about his mum and her personality and her, you know, wonderful attributes and, you know, I never delved very deeply 'cause it was still something that I could tell troubled him.

But Dad never ever suggested to me that there was anything other than mental health issues that led to his mum disappearing, and the theory, which I think is, is right, is that she had decided to, um, swim out from the beach at Dee Why, where her nightdress was found, and keep swimming.

So what was the connection, Hedley, in the timing, uh, around your dad and, and the loss of his mum in that awful, tragic way and your decision to create this podcast about another missing but murdered woman, Lynette Dawson?
