Hurricane Lowell is moving away from Hawaii, but the storm has left major impacts on Kauai and disrupted travel across the islands. So what does this mean if you have a Hawaii trip coming up? In…
So Tuesday morning at the time of this recording and this release, the storm has been moving away north away from the main Hawaiian islands and is continuing to weaken.
And most of Kauai, I think the number I saw was like 80% of the island lost power.
There's Downed trees, utility lines, flooding, road closures, and emergency crews are asking people to just stay off the roads while damage assessments are currently underway.
Luhi Airport, the main airport on Kauai, was also closed Monday afternoon because of the storm.
So if you're hearing this later, check HDOT and your airline, your specific airline.
If you actually happen to be on Kauai right now and you're listening to this episode, local officials and emergency alerts should be your primary source of immediate safety information of what you want to do, what you want to focus on.
But what I want to focus on for this episode is what this means for an upcoming trip, because I can't tell you the amount of emails and DMs that I've gotten and comments on on social media that I've gotten about, should I be postponing my trip? Should I cancel? So let's say you're flying to Hawaii in the next couple of days, next week or so.
