O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

Our worship is more than what we sing, but it certainly includes what we sing.

And when Christians gather and lift their voices as one, it is a unique type of worship, which is far more than just tradition.

It's biblical.

God's people down through the ages have sung his praises.

It's like an anthem of worship that echoes for all eternity.

And here at Haven, we value and even play a wide variety of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as Paul put it.

And this week, our focus is on the great hymns of the faith.

Deep theology set to music and then the stories that go with them.

And today we have the story behind a hymn known far and wide.

Musically, it's actually quite distinct.

It stands out compared to other hymns, but it's no less treasured.

Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus.

It has almost a trance-like melody.

You can almost picture yourself leaning on the rail of a great ship on a windy day, riding the rolling waves.

There's a powerful, dangerous even, feeling of joy that drives every note.

And the tune really matches the power of the lyrics, which point us to Jesus.

And here at Haven, that's the point.

This is what we do every day.

And so I'd like to ask you today to be part of it.
