Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting

I'm David Wolin, sharing the great story that's all about Jesus.

We're in a series called The Story Behind the Song.

We're looking at some of the greatest hymns of the faith, many of which have profound stories behind them or about them, stories of how our God in the course of history has used those hymns, sometimes in surprising ways.

But it's not only stories like this that make the hymns valuable.

Now there is something remarkable about how a timeless melody, then married to a well-crafted verse, can sear God's truth into the mind and heart of believers.

And when we sing these historic hymns, We're joining our hearts and voices, not only with each other, but with generations of believers who were strengthened in their time for a life of faithfulness.

And it was the very same truths and songs they sang that we now sing.

And there is something deeply compelling about that.

One other thought.

It's our Creator's intention.

It always was that we would sing His praise.

And the Lord Jesus actually joins us in this.

Matthew and Mark tell us that Jesus sang with His disciples.

And in Romans chapter 15, this is quoting the Psalms, we hear the voice of the Messiah King saying, "'Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles.

I will sing the praises of your name.'" That's the voice of Jesus praising the Father in song as the gospel is going forth all across the earth and bringing in people from every nation, tribe, and tongue.

We sing.

Our Savior sings.

And that, to me, is a beautiful and amazing thing.

And so the great hymns of the faith, these are a sacred gift to Steward.
