The car market is shifting fast and few people have a better view of it than Erin Keating, Executive Analyst at Cox Automotive. You may not know the name Cox, but you've almost certainly used their…

well that was a pretty fantastic interview erin is a great personality to have on the show here
Yeah, I always like talking with Erin when we run into each other at various events.
Cox is in so many different parts of the business, from selling and processing used cars at Mannheim auctions to the various dealer systems that they operate, battery remanufacturing and recycling.
And so she's got access to a ton of really interesting information and the ability to put all that together.

Yeah, and that's one thing I either never knew or completely forgot because my brain is like a colander.

But the battery recycling and remanufacturing, I was not aware that they did that.
They bought a company a few years ago that was in the recycling and business, and they've integrated that into their larger business.
So as Aaron mentioned, they've got a facility in Oklahoma that that does all that stuff.
Plus they've taken some of the technology developed by that company and they've, they've integrated it in their Mannheim auction sites.

And so all the EVs and plug-in hybrids and hybrids that go through Mannheim, they do an inspection on the cars and they provide that inspection report to the dealers that are bidding on the cars that they want to sell.
So they get a very detailed battery inspection report on every car that goes through there.
And so they know what it is that they're getting, what kind of condition that battery's in.
And one of the interesting things that we didn't get into is that Batteries actually hold up really well.
It's not like the battery in your phone that after a couple of years, it can't hold a charge anymore.
EV batteries are very different, and they will last for 10, 15 years or more without losing very much capacity.

And that's because they test them to such a rigorous level, right? There's a lot of safety margin there, right? That's
