Ben RadfordGuestAdela BrentGuestI'm really glad to be here, even at a distance, and to share this space with comrades that carry struggles and follow closely from Brazil.
I want to start my time speaking about the international situation where the defining feature of the period is the geopolitical dispute conducted by an hegemonic imperialism in crisis of the United States.
So several processes have been following that crisis and reinforcing one another.
The rearmament of the central countries, which puts war back on the table, a renewed neocolonial offensive by that same imperialism, climate chaos and crisis as the product of environmental destruction.
and the deployment of artificial intelligence to maximize the profits of the billionaires and to extend control over those who live from their labor.
These are direct effects of what we call multiple crises of capitalism, and they are being managed by a power that is losing its capacity to impose order by consent.
So within that framework, Imposing control over Latin America is a fundamental necessity for Trump, and its urgency comes from difficulties on some fronts that are connected.
The first one is the Middle East, where his administration is facing defeats in Iran.
The second one is a domestic one that emanates of an electoral defeat in the midterms in November, the midterms elections in November that could isolate his government.
And the third is the attempt to realize the premises of what we can call the downward doctrine in Latin America.
So, a success of this doctrine in Latin America would compensate if it has loss in the others.
So Trump has been doing a lot of interventions in Latin America, in Argentina, as an example, to keep Milley strong while his popularity is decreasing.
That is a very old aspiration of popular consciousness in Argentina, and using this as an electoral instrument.
We know that the general framework here is also the interim perilous competition with China over energy markets and now over rare earths and critical minerals.
And this situation is connected with the advance of the far right in other countries.
