So if you're confused about some of the rules that have been conveyed to you, things you're supposed to do and not do, and all these rules that you have, if they seem sometimes mean to you, Or out of place or not in line with commands like love God and love others, love your neighbors, yourself, above all else, love.

What's behind that is this underlying current of patriarchy and misogyny within the church.

So one theme that emerged that shifted our view of the non-affirming or the rules-based church drove our reconstruction.

And that theme is the drive to protect the institution even as it diminishes or even destroys the people within.

When we began to see that, it was like, holy smokes, everything makes sense now.
