Ben HancockHostThen to that small group of Jews we talked about comes the New Testament, then, uh, the loss of, uh, the Jerusalem temple, and the world does fall into an apostasy, but it's not necessarily an apostasy of the, of Christ's church.
Uh, but it does a lot of wonderful things and sets up the world for the gathering.
Uh, I like to have my students imagine, uh, that This is the video that plays in my head that there's Isaiah, or sorry, there's Abraham and Sarah and Isaac and Rebecca and Jacob and Rachel, Leah, Bilhah, and Zilpah all standing outside of Jehovah's office saying, "Hey, I thought you said we were going to bless all the families of the earth." And he says, "Yes." And they said, "Well, it's been quite a long time, right? That our descendants don't even know who they are.
I'm getting things ready." And then I have the Lord gesturing to the earth, pointing at this little farm boy, right? In 1823, we're going to start gathering with him, right? And I just picture them going, "Him? Really? Him? He's our guy.
His name is so generic, right? His name is Joseph Smith." And the Lord says, "Yep, that's going to be our gatherer, the beginning of the gathering." So I think that quote from President Benson that you read, right?
They've looked forward to this day, this time where the Lord's going to return Israel to its place to bless all the families of the earth.

And I think it's almost, I think sometimes I wonder why I struggle to grasp the magnitude of it.

And I think sometimes it's because I'm brought up in a society that is trained to think short term.

And so I think what perhaps many of the patriarchs had that was such a gift, and I guess any ordained seer, is the ability to step out of that a bit and see far beyond the here and now.

Whereas my attention is just 24-7 being pulled out from everywhere that to stop and think about a thousand years in the past and how I'm connected to it and how I'm connected to eternity in the future is just like it's a little bit mind-boggling.

But when you do, like I've had the privilege of doing as I've prepared for this interview, it's quite rousing in a way.
