In 1.8, the game had around 40 mobs, 40 biomes, and 300 blocks to work with.
Today, there are over 85 mobs, 150 biomes, and 1,000 different blocks.
There used to be 25 advancements, now there are over 100.
These, on the surface, are inherently good changes.
There's more to do, more ways to unleash your creativity while building, and a bigger and better experience for everyone.
What's the catch? Well, we've lost the constraints.
Constraints that made the game more focused and forced your creativity in a way that the modern game doesn't.
Constraints that, to this day, can fix your attention span.
Maybe I sound like your grandma telling you about how phones used to have buttons and how politicians didn't always share AI videos of them insider trading stocks and bragging about it, but I'm spitting facts.
There's a reason it feels harder than ever to start a new survival world or to hop on a server and play for more than a day, or to build something in creative just to get bored 44 seconds later.
Let's start with building because that's where I noticed this first.
