The 7 Deadly Sins of Visibility: What’s Really Holding You Back

So about six weeks ago, I think that was the math on that, I had the opportunity to speak at the Power Table Live.

Shout out Taylor Smith, amazing friend and community keynote speaker.

And at the very end of the week, we got to do this small group mastermind on a yacht.

And I was like, oh, I can't wait to go on this yacht day.

It was like the highlight of my week.

And we met for brunch before the day kicked off.

And the women are going around the table, talking about, this is me, this is my business, this is what I'm excited about, and this is a challenge that I'm currently working through.

There's about 12 of us, so everyone's saying their thing, and as it's getting closer to me, I'm like, okay, I can either tell them the truth, the thing that I'm feeling really, really challenged by right now, Or I can give them like the fake thing, the palatable thing, the thing that I think everyone's going to have an answer to.

And it was going to be like selling out tickets, something about like, how do I sell at this event? Or how do I manage my book launch in the fall? Things that are certainly challenges, but they weren't the thing getting in my way.

And so it finally gets to me.

And they look around the table, and they start to explain who I am and what my business is, and then I cried.

For those group of women.

Not just like I'm getting emotional, like I was like sobbing, because there was something on my heart that I really, really wanted, and I was really embarrassed to say it out loud.

especially to this group of women who are all so talented and established and professional.

And I sat there saying, I want to be a reality TV star.

Oh my God, could have died.

But a really amazing thing happened when I finally admitted it out loud.

No one told me that that was embarrassing or said that's unrealistic.

They started to give me ideas on how I could actually become one.

Yeah.

And I was like, that is so amazing.

I felt so free after I got to share that out loud with this group of women, because I was like, of course, of course I would find the people who would not scoff at the big dream, but they would lift me up because of it.

And you know what's interesting? This pattern, this like shamefulness, I'm so glad Diana teed me up for this during the panel, this ickiness around fame is really where my like root cause of like being ashamed of reality TV comes from.

Because we're told that fame is like a bad thing to want.

Like it's vain, like it's shallow, like it's vanity.
