Phil Brooks Romans 15:14-22 www.emmanuelcroydon.org.uk
So it's really fitting, I think, to come and talk to you about the book of Romans, because Paul is writing to a church that he has neither planted nor pastored himself.
He hasn't even visited the church in Rome, so that's at least one thing I have over St. Paul this evening, is that I've been to Emmanuel Croydon before.
I've been really thrilled these last few years to just hear about all the great things that are happening here in this church and the way the Lord Jesus really is moving among you in some powerful ways.
And I wanted to just home in on one element of what it means to be church this evening, as this reading does.
Now, I know that as we begin that kind of a conversation, we're going to have different levels of experience, different levels of confidence.
Perhaps we wonder if we've got the right words Or we're gifted enough to do it well.
We see some people who are just very naturally able to start conversations with strangers and talk about the deep and important things in life.
He says, all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me, so go and make disciples.
And this passage that we've just read, it doesn't tell us how, doesn't give us any techniques, but it has some deep treasure on why.
What those dynamics are in the heart of us, deep in our hearts, that make that happen.
I think Paul shows us here how to, he gives us the ingredients for anxiety-free evangelism.
you have a bible close to hand they may put some words up behind but we are on page 11 51 so if if nothing else at least it reassures me if you have your bibles open it's really good to look at them uh yourselves from page 11 51. now we're coming to a new part of the the book of romans I know the last few weeks you've been camped out in chapters 12, 13, and 14, and Paul gives these exhortations, these kind of commands to the church of this is how you live in fellowship with each other.
This is what it looks like to take that glorious gospel and put it in a community of human beings.
