What is God's chastening? In Episode 4 of "The Chastening of the Lord," Duane Sheriff teaches the what, why, and how of God's chastening. Chastening is not wrath, punishment, or rejection. It is the loving correction, guidance, warning, and discipline from a Father who wants the best for His children. Why does God correct us? Because He loves us and wants what is good for us. His correction is for our profit, helping us recognize attitudes, choices, and behaviors that can harm our lives, relationships, and spiritual growth. God's love is unconditional, but His love does not mean He accepts everything we do without correction. How does that chastening work in our lives? God uses His Word and the Holy Spirit to instruct us, warn us, rebuke us, and give us course corrections when we begin moving in the wrong direction. His conviction does not push us down in guilt and condemnation. It lifts us up, reminds us who we are in Christ, and draws us closer to Him. Believers need not fear or avoid God's chastening. It is part of our daily walk, as God course-corrects His children to live in the right way.
