Psalm 23

I don't believe David could explain it.

Now, having said all that, David's masterpiece is definitely Psalm 23.

It is the most quoted, memorized passage.

passage of scripture in the entire Bible in two of the world's major religions we've been saying it every Wednesday night not because I would remember it evidently but we have been saying it let's turn to Psalm 23 now if you will and let's just work our way through it a little bit The very first part of it.

The Lord is my shepherd.

I shall not want.

He restores my soul.

Again, a fascinating passage of scripture here.

Glory to God.

And so as a believer, one of the things you must pay attention to do in your life is to study the advantages that the Lord has given to you so that your life truly is maximized and you become a wonder to your world and one of the chiefest advantages god has given to us is his presence if you study your bible in psalm 23 david revealed to us that as a king a king that had undeniable impact a king that was literally invincible one of the things that gave him that level of advantage and power was the presence of God.

He said, I'm a king, but I don't depend on my throne to rule.

I'm a king, but I don't depend on the mighty man I have to be the David that I am, who will be a blessing to many generations.

But this same David told us that his advantage is not his military competence.

His advantage is not the mighty men that he had.

In Psalm 23 from verse 1 to 6, he said, the Lord is my shepherd.

Although I am a king, although I have mighty men, but the Lord is my shepherd.

I am what God says I am in Jesus' mighty name.

I boldly declare Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He mocketh me to lie down in green pastures, He letteth me beside the still waters.

The power of God is what helps us to dominate over our enemies.

And that was why David, because of the anointing of God in his life, because of that anointing of god in his head he experienced dominion over all his enemies now listen to me because we are just like we are also like david we are also going to be faced with all kinds of enemies and that's why we need god's power to defeat them we need god's power to defeat our enemy let me give us one more point then we'll pray and lastly the anointing on the head of david number one it represents uh uh you know god's presence number two god's power and then number three god's provision god's provision now because david was anointed was carrying the anointing on his head he also enjoyed the provision of god Let's look at Psalm 23 verse 5 to understand this point that I will start to pray.

God's provision.

Psalm 23 verse 5.

Look at what David said.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemy.

So David also enjoyed God's provision because of the anointing.

God's provision.

I prayed for comfort.

I prayed Psalm 23 over her.

I prayed that God would wrap his arms around her and convey to her aching heart how wide, long, high, and deep his love is for her.

Tears began spilling from her eyes and then mine.

Even if you don't know the particulars of their situation, God does.

And he wants to show his love for them.

As you and I can read in Psalm 23, 4, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me.

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

But we know that God in His Word has promised that He will provide our needs and sometimes even our wants if we trust Him.

And she used to recite Psalm 23 into my ears every single night until I ended up memorizing it when I was only five years old because she trusted that God will truly provide for our family.

And so she taught me how to pray and how to bring my needs to the Lord and prayer and even my wants.

And I remember one of the things I really wanted to have was my very own toys because I didn't get new ones just for me.

Yeah, that's so good.

I think of Psalm 23 and that the Lord is our shepherd and he's with us in dark, hard places.

When you dive into Psalm 23 and look at he's before us, he's leading us, he's behind us, he's with us.

I want to tell the postpartum mom, he's there.

When you're not feeling it, the Bible is full.

At times it's good.

And in my little group we were talking about Psalm 23.

Psalm 23 has been one of them passages of scripture that I've needed so many times that I've come back to again.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

In those moments where I felt like I really want some more, I really need something and God's saying to me, you will not want when you're with me.

That was Joshua 24, and that concludes the book of Joshua.
