The Chastening Of The Lord | Episode 3 | What Chastening Is Not

Let's go to Galatians chapter 3.

I quoted it.

And many people do not know what they've been saved from.

And Galatians chapter 3, Paul is dealing with this very issue of the law and the curses of the law.

And that man under that law, Romans 4.15 says, God's wrath from heaven was revealed on all unrighteousness.

And there were these curses and punishment for disobedience to God.

That was a part of the law of Moses.

And verse 13 of Galatians 3 says, Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.

For it's written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree.

Why was Jesus made a curse? That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus.

That we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

When you exercise your faith in Jesus, you are now redeemed from all of those curses under that law.

And again, Deuteronomy 28 verse 15 through 68 outlines them perfectly and they are horrific.

You don't want anything to do with those curses and being cursed under that law.

And so Jesus not only bore our sins on the cross, He bore God's wrath against us on the cross.

He bore the curses or the curse of that law.

And that's what you're redeemed from.

So while I'm redeemed from the curse of the law and God's wrath, I'm not redeemed from the chastening of the Lord.

So I need to know what the chastening of the Lord is.

Because many today still believe God is chastening them, correcting them, teaching them.

by putting curses on them.

This is where people get it's God making them sick is out of the curses of the law.

God's making them poor out of the curses of the law.

God's doing all these bad things because of their sins out of his wrath and anger and he's teaching them something.

God's wrath under the law was punitive.
