And Scripture tells us that we are born physically alive, but because of sin, thanks to sin, we are born spiritually dead.

And then the Spirit that gives us that life, so we put our faith in Jesus, and then the Spirit then dwells in our lives for the rest of our lives.

And as He works through our life, He assures us and He reveals Christ to us and He fills us and He leads us and He empowers us and He transforms us.

And so from our physical birth, all the way to our spiritual birth, all the way to our resurrected life in the new creation, we are completely dependent on the person and the work of the Spirit.

And then he finally carries that forward to the glorious future that is to come.

But for today, we're just looking at this beginning part here that I've circled and we're asking, how does someone who is spiritually dead become spiritually alive to God? And why do we need to be born again anyway? Why do that? Let's listen to how Paul describes our condition in the first eight verses of Romans 8.
