The gang dig into Kyle's pick from the heavy rotation, Isis' first record Celestial. Where will they land on the record and the concept of Post-Metal in general? Follow us on our Instagram to see…
Okay, so since our last episode...
Since our last episode, I've actually managed to somehow get in...
I got into Pig Destroyer, which is crazy, because I still don't even know if I necessarily like Grindcore, but I listened to...
On Alex's recommendation, I listened to Terrifier, and I really liked that one, so...
This is a fun little thing to work down.
But, yeah, no, it turns out Grindcore can be good, even though it's still very similar to the last one.
This new album's different, though.
It's fuzzy.
It's sludgy.
It's heavy.
Sludgy, fuzzy, doomy.
It's a different kind of heavy.
Yeah.
When I was thinking about it, I was listening to the first couple songs this afternoon while I was just out and about during my day.
And it made me think, like, Prowler in the Yard is like a fucking howitzer gun pointed at your forehead at point-blank range.
It's just a full frontal assault of heavy all the time.
This is a
mortar.
This album feels like it envelops you.
Every instrument is so big and so ingrained in the mix.
that it just it completely envelops you in it
yeah that is the post-metal in the sound so this album or i mean this band in general is often seen as one of the founders of the post-metal style There's people who will argue whether that's a real genre or whether this is just atmospheric sludge or whatever.
But there's definitely a huge atmosphere to this album that sets it apart from other just bone-crushing sludge metal albums.
And the contrast, I think, makes the heaviness hit even harder on this album.
