If you are a first-time Kickstarter creator, you are gonna have a disadvantage to everyone else on the platform.
[upbeat music] Hey, everybody, and welcome to another awesome episode of "Crowdfunding Nerds." I am your host, Andrew Lowen, and I am joined as always by Sean, as mostly always by Sean.
And, uh, today we're gonna be talking about red flags on your crowdfunding campaign, and this is in particular red flags that backers would identify as red flags, not that I would identify as a marketer necessarily, um, or that you would identify necessarily as someone that's like, "Oh, I must have this particular component." Um, these are things that backers regularly find that deter them from backing your Kickstarter campaign from the perspective of the backers.
And the reason that we're kind of taking this is because there was a really interesting post on Board Game Revolution community, uh, one of the Facebook communities, um, you know, Facebook groups, um, about board games that gets a lot of traction and whatnot.
And there was someone that asked, um, "Some board game project, projects sound too good to be true from the start.
What's a red flag for you when deciding to back one?" And, um, Sean actually shared this with me, and I thought, man, this-- Well, actually, you suggested that it would be a good podcast episode, so I've gotta give credit where credit's due.
[chuckles]
[chuckles]
It was a very, uh, a solid thread, and it had lots of really great information in it.
And, you know, sometimes, like, we talk about hygiene factors, but that is from the perspective of, like, you have to have these elements on your crowdfunding page.
But I loved reading this because it really put things, it framed things in a different way from the backer's perspective, and I just thought, you know, reading some of these and, and discussing them would be, would be really edifying both for us and for those listening, and of course our clients.
It's useful because it's straight from the horse's mouth, so it gives you a pretty clear indication.
But maybe one caveat is that this is from a board game group, so these will probably be the kind of more-
... enthusiastic board game hobbyists.
Sometimes your game can appeal to people outside of the board game space, particularly if the theme overlaps with something else.
That clearly, uh, didn't only appeal to board gamers.
I think it mostly appealed to people who weren't, uh, frankly, weren't part of the board game space and hobby, um, 'cause it kinda came out of nowhere.
So just keep that in mind.
Uh, but I think overall this is gonna be very important.
The things we're gonna discuss here will be very important to a, a big subset- section of your overall demographics that you're trying to reach and, and, you know, encourage them to back your Kickstarter project.
So yeah.
