No, I didn't know it was gonna happen at the time, but, uh, my mother has a uncle, which is, I mean, a brother, which was my uncle, and he lived in Southwest New Mexico, north of Silver City, New Mexico.

You know, we talk about the Gila, one of the first wildernesses put in by Roosevelt.

And at the time I was out there, I think it was close to 865,000 acres, and they've encompassed more since then, the Black Range, the Leopold Range.

But Uncle knew that country better than anybody, and, uh, he called and he said, "Hey, this guy that was helping me, he ain't helping me no more, and I need somebody that can guide.

I need you to come out here." Let's go back first and paint a picture, Oklahoma landscape, okay? Southwest corner.
