Cordkillers 622: Xbox Office

Video game movies are good.

Yes, we finally reached that promised land, everyone.

Not all of them are good, but it's not like, oh, it's a video game movie.

It will be bad like it used to.

So much so that Xbox has launched a new division called XP Games.

very clever, like experience points, to handle its non-gaming ventures.

Within XP, Xbox Pictures will pursue film and TV adaptations of Xbox properties.

So video games that are first-party studios, stuff like that.

They've also got some other parts of this.

Xbox Products is going to do merch, you know, like the Xbox stuffies they sell at Ikea.

Xbox Partnerships will do brand partners.

Xbox Places is going to run live events.

And interestingly, the former president of Mojang Studios, Kayleen Walters, has been tapped to lead XP.

Of course, Minecraft, made by Mojang Studios, one of the more successful examples of turning a video game property into a movie.

Reddit's chief product officer, Maria Angelito-Smith, is coming over from Reddit and will take over as the CEO of Mojang.

Now, as I mentioned, Minecraft movie, very successful.

Fallout...

Another Microsoft video game property that has done well as a television series on Amazon.

There are other examples, of course.

Halo, not as successful.

Maybe you liked it.

I'm not saying it was a total flop.

But, you know, it's not like every one is going to hit.

But we got some good ones.

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the universe of CD Projekt Red's video game Cyberpunk 2077.
