Fiona AndréGuestAmanda HendersonHostFiona, what did you see when you walked in the room at the State Board of Education meeting?

Well, first of all, the first person I saw was a man holding a Confederate flag and he had been asked to leave the room.

There were, to kind of further set the scene, there were two overflow rooms just because of how many people were there.

They said that they wanted to have a space where they could go and kind of take a break from the testimonies to kind of strategize amongst themselves, review some of their speeches.

And so certainly there was a pretty large Muslim presence, some advocates and activists that are part of established organizations.

But there were also parents, young students who were Muslim that showed up and wanted to, you know, contribute to the testimony.

In that other overflow room, as I mentioned, many of the folks who supported the controversial curriculum changes gathered amongst themselves.

And so there were certainly a lot of really organized groups that showed up from both sides.
