Isaiah’s Names for God3:31 – 5:51

Eddie JosephHost

3:31

Guys, we made it through the last section of Isaiah.

Eddie JosephHost

3:34

Great job.

Eddie JosephHost

3:35

Way to stick through it.

Eddie JosephHost

3:36

Isaiah can be a little bit daunting at times.

Eddie JosephHost

3:38

But if you look back, man, is it pretty cool.

Eddie JosephHost

3:40

Isaiah is one of the most prophetic, uh, is one of the most prophetic namers of God seen in all the scriptures.

Eddie JosephHost

3:46

Here are just a couple.

Eddie JosephHost

3:47

Obviously, you have the simple ones, God, Lord, and Redeemer.

Eddie JosephHost

3:50

Isaiah really loves that Redeemer one.

Eddie JosephHost

3:52

We also have Lord thy God, and he coins this, Holy One of Israel.

Eddie JosephHost

3:56

And at first we see it in, in, uh, in the, uh, in, um, F- Second Kings, but that's when, uh, Hezekiah was king and Isaiah was a prophet, and it was Isaiah that came up with the Holy One of Israel.

Eddie JosephHost

4:06

You also have Savior, and the Mighty One of Jacob, and I that speak in righteousness, Our Father, our Potter, and God of truth.

Eddie JosephHost

4:14

Off the bat, man, you just...

Eddie JosephHost

4:16

It's one of the ways where you see the Savior's hand and His character throughout Isaiah's teachings.

4:21

Yeah, some- something that I would add here, too, is if you understand the Book of Isaiah, and, and remember in 3 Nephi, uh, I'm sure this has been brought up, you know, in, in other episodes, but in 3 Nephi, the Savior is inviting us to study the words of Isaiah, right? And you look at my that...

4:35

why that might be.

4:36

In the New Testament when Jesus quotes scripture, who does He quote the most?

Eddie JosephHost

4:40

4:41

It's Isaiah, and it's not even close, right? His frame of reference as He is teaching people is an Isaiah worldview.

4:48

Well, what about, what about the Nephites? When they quote the Old Testament, who do they quote the most?

Ellis SondrupHost

4:53

4:54

Right? They are living in an Isaiah worldview, and it makes sense, right? Because Isaiah was this prophet sh- about 100 years before Lehi came to the Americas, you know, 750 to 700-ish BC.

5:06

And so this is the f- the most fresh prophecy that's on their minds, right? This is like us reading, uh, the, the writings of the Prophet Joseph Smith in our day.

5:17

Isaiah to them is what Joseph Smith is to us in terms of framing our religious worldview.

5:23

And so if you understand Isaiah, you understand all these other scriptures that we hold as Latter-day Saints.
