Another episode of Classic Gaming Brothers! Spooky Season is over, and now it's time for the season of the Harvest! Our Patrons: Classic Gaming Enthusiast -- Byrgenwerth -- We have officially…
seth recently i've been playing sonic 3 other circumstances uh developed by the s3oc team uh this is a game that is actually currently a demo being showcased as part of sage 2026 sage aka the sonic amateur game expo is uh as the name implies, a video game expo that started out initially as a Sonic fan game exhibition, but has evolved into a mix of fan games and indie games.
In fact, Pizza Tower, that game that got really popular for a bit, started out as a game that was showcased at Sage in its early form.
One of the demos... before it became really big was available at sage so sage isn't just a sonic thing uh it's primarily a sonic thing but uh there's kind of a mix of all sorts that are there and one of my favorite things is to check out the fan games and uh sonic 3 other circumstances is a fan game that has been in development for a bit i've been following the development it's a reimagining of sonic 3 but with levels that are based on the multiplayer levels of the original sonic 3 So for those who've never played Sonic 3, the multiplayer, which is a series of split screen levels that you can play with a friend, the levels are very different than anything in the rest of the game, which is odd because in Sonic 2, the multiplayer levels are just squished versions of the regular levels that you play.
And what Sonic 3 Other Circumstances does is it reimagines these zones as being single player mainline levels.
And does a decent job, at least with the first level that I played, which is the only level available in the demo.
But the concept of the demo is that it's the same Sonic 3 storyline, but tweaked a little bit.
It's like you nudged it while it was being written and you kind of like shifted a couple of words in one place or shifted an atom somewhere in the universe.
And this is like an alternate universe version of what Sonic 3 could have been with a different set of levels, utilizing some beta elements that were in the works at the time.
And it's kind of cool to check out.
So far, I really like the way they handled the actual gameplay.
However, it's built in a kind of its own engine and is really, though, indistinguishable from a classic Sonic game, which is nice.
But it also does some new things that I think are thanks to the engine's ability to handle some new things.
I'll be excited to see what the team does in future updates.
Right now, it's just really two levels the first level is kind of more of just like an intro level and then the first full level is only two stages it's uh with a first stage has a boss fight at the end and the second stage has like a fight against Robotnik uh and that's it so it'd be cool when more levels get developed the team's not super big so I assume and also this is a fan project so I assume they work on it when they have time but I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for it and that's Sonic 3 other circumstances uh currently available through the Sage 2026 website
