T

You know what I mean? I had a Mega Drive at home.
T
49:20TomHOST
And another game that he had, and it was like the third or fourth of the series, I haven't mentioned it with you and on the series before, but it was the Pandora Directive, which is a tense Murphy graphic adventure game with FMV.
T
49:34TomHOST
So it was like a 3D point and click.
T
49:36TomHOST
Basically, you can move around your environment.
T
49:38TomHOST
It's in like a slightly future, I think it's San Francisco, where there's been a nuclear war.
T
49:43TomHOST
So your FMV is with people who were like slightly mutated and stuff like that.
T
49:48TomHOST

J
62:55Jess MorrissetteHOST
She was there in the recording booth munching her popcorn and telling us, like, do I like King Graham?
B
63:03Ben VigeantHOST
And it's just... it's really, I would love to see a FMV game like, and we're not going to, but I would just love to see an FMV game, like have like enter with the philosophy of we're going to have the actors do all the stuff that a video game adventure game avatar would do.
B
63:29Ben VigeantHOST
Because that's just, it's just so funny.
B
63:32Ben VigeantHOST
Like other, other FMV games weren't even doing that at the time.
J
63:37Jess MorrissetteHOST
not Yeah, I mean, it may not be like unique to Sierra's products, but you see a lot of it and phantasmagoria and Gabriel not to like, it just seems to be.
J
63:51Jess MorrissetteHOST
Yeah, like you said, like, yeah, we would have if this were you know a traditional 2d adventure we would be having them make these motions so of course we need to do it here in this uh in this fmv how else will you know will we tell this story visually eye lines are all over the place yeah it's uh it's a wonderful wild west of cinema
Building Worlds for the Mind: Solitary Game Design, Nostalgia, and Mental Well-Being with Aaron Gwynaire
A

Schism, which is another kind of Myst-like game that inspired me.
A
7:54Aaron GwynaireGUEST
Hunt Zimmer, Blade Runner, theme tunes, and even movie soundtracks, you know, like Waterworld and... and other kind of movies inspired Blade Runner to a point you know not so much the sort of high tech sort of 80s synthy kind of stuff but there was a lot of inspirations there and I think it just sort of found its own sound really I started recording the music in early 2023 just after doing most of the videos the character recordings for the game the FMV sequences so So February to March, I was recording most of my music for the game.
A
8:34Aaron GwynaireGUEST
So it didn't take as long as the modeling or the 3D modeling.
A
8:39Aaron GwynaireGUEST
The 3D modeling is the longest process in developing a game.
Final Fantasy Resonance + BioWare's Closure w/ Michael Higham
V
23:15Victor HunterHOST
There are real-time cutscenes where, yes, they get a little bold with some camera angles and things, which are fun.
V
23:23Victor HunterHOST
And then you have the FMVs, which are often also still using in-game assets, but they're going even wilder with it.
V
23:31Victor HunterHOST
These FMVs are where you see the, sorry, it's in the opening cutscene, Bahamut's there.
V
23:39Victor HunterHOST
And you see it is a 3D model that they have layered a pixelization filter over top of.
V
23:48Victor HunterHOST
And that can work really, really well.
TSM Episode 889: Pressure
S
71:45Silicon NoobHOST
The voice acting is in English.
S
71:46Silicon NoobHOST
But when the FMV show up, they're still in Japanese.
C
71:52CaspiusHOST
Well, I don't have the Warrior of Light yet, so I can't comment.
C
71:55CaspiusHOST
So when I get him, I'll let you know.
Reviews of Roots in the Sky - The Hand of Glory 2, Tormentum 2 and Asylum

S
60:47Seoirse DunbarHOST
And it's another game that came out, long time development as well.
S
60:51Seoirse DunbarHOST
And I will be reviewing a VR adventure game, an FMV adventure game available on VR.
S
60:57Seoirse DunbarHOST
Yes, VR still exists.
S
60:58Seoirse DunbarHOST
It mightn't be... having its greatest moment overall but there are still some interesting games and adventure games there as well so i'll be talking about that game as well and uh yeah plenty to look forward to and i hope with matt at some point to do our discussion however discussion on broken sword we forged um as well at some point so plenty to look forward to i also had an interview with james patton who made silicon dreams uh kind of a blade runner-esque uh game and uh dusk punk which was uh was similar to citizen sleeper so very good conversation uh with him on those games as well so yeah plenty to look forward to and as we said we'll be at adventure x Yes, that's what
E15: Garrus Deserved Better
K
29:32KainitsuHOST
It would
T
29:32TruVillainHOST
be cool to have the FMV cut scenes would be kind of cool.
K
29:36KainitsuHOST
With actual people.
K
29:38KainitsuHOST
Some developers do that with some games.
Season 7: Episode 14 - "Resident Evil on Sega and Beyond"
A
11:14AlexGUEST
And got it home, put it in the machine, and it was fantastic.
A
11:17AlexGUEST
And I say fantastic, but initially when that dodgy FMV entry intro started, I was like, oh my god, this is terrible.
A
11:27AlexGUEST
awful voice acting and everything like that but then like once the game actually started proper and it was like this isometric style with the sort of pre-rendered backgrounds which was like unlike anything I'd ever played before I had very briefly seen Alone in the Dark on PC so I sort of like had seen something like that once but this was the first time I'd played anything like that and then the sort of whole thing with like the inventory management and sort of like limited ammunition didn't sink in initially so I was playing as Chris and I just kept dying like until I sort of thought, right, I need to like start from scratch here.
A
12:00AlexGUEST
Went through and played as Jill and realized, you know, you've actually got to avoid some of the zombies.
Best Cutscenes // The Falcon Show #13
F
14:47FalconHOST
This game is the one that brought it to the mainstream.
F
14:49FalconHOST
It popularized FMVs and cutscenes in games.
K
14:53KevinHOST
Yeah.
K
14:54KevinHOST
And I think FMVs in games is the moment when cutscenes became a big reward.
K
15:01KevinHOST
I know that before, even in the early 90s and the 80s, I think there were cutscenes.
K
15:06KevinHOST
The Ultima games would have a little animation thing.
Starfield "2.0" // The Falcon Show #19
K

imagine.
K
2:32KevinHOST
How could it? What the hell? What is happening here? Yeah, if an FMV just appeared, you're like, what? What is happening? This isn't right.
K
2:40KevinHOST
This is not right.
F
2:41FalconHOST
How? How? How could this happen? So there's a thing that I have to say about what Starfield is that I think to some extent describes how bland it is.
