Jo Collins: the Playmate sent to Vietnam

Let's meet Jo Collins.

She's originally

from Lebanon, Oregon.

And when she was 18, 19 years old, she was working as a model on a TV show called Queen for a Day.

There, she was discovered, and it was recommended that she pose for Playboy.

Jo Collins was then named Miss December 1964.

She was 19 years old.

This pictorial, I think, is really cute.

It has kind of like a homey theme.

Also acknowledging it's the 60s, like the magazine was not very wild.

Not that it ever became super wild, but you know what I mean.

Like these photos are all seemingly taken in a home.

Some of them she's standing by a backyard pool.

There's some photos of her in the pool, some like on a couch with a blanket.

The article that's accompanying her centerfold does allude to her wanting to be an actress.

And it also says that she has recently moved to Hollywood less than a block from one of the major studios.

The following year, 1965, Joe Collins is named Playmate of the Year.

And when looking into this, I was kind of surprised how Playmate of the Year was awarded at this time.

It was very publicly announced that there was three women very closely in the running for being Playmate of the Year, and there was a public vote.

In addition to Joe Collins, Miss December, Chinna Lee, who was Miss August 1964, was also a close contender.

She was the first Asian-American playmate.

And Astrid Schultz, who was Miss September 1964.

She had

recently immigrated to
