The Opposite of Psalm 23: Prayers That Call Down Calamity & Judgement On Enemies in the Bible | Chilliwack Campus

Have you ever looked at the world, looked at our country, looked at our city and just observe the wickedness that abounds and wonder why, why God is allowing it, or it seems like at times that he's not doing enough? Of late, I've had so many questions.

Sometimes we want everything clean and sanitized when we come before God, but guess what? It's okay to have questions.

It's okay for there to be doubt.

I was going to bed one night asking the Lord, why this, why that? Why that? Why does my wife have MS? Why does she not too long ago be diagnosed with Sjogren's where she has no saliva and no tears? Why have I prayed nonstop but you don't seem to be answering? Why do the wicked prosper? Why this? Why that? And then I thought, sitting there in my bed, When I see Jesus face to face, I was initially kind of seeing me pulling out my notepad in the back pocket with all the questions I had.

Then I thought, no,

that's not going to happen.

When I see Jesus in a moment, all my questions will be immediately gone.

Do you remember the old song, one glimpse of his dear face and all sorrows will erase? so bravely run the race until we see Christ.

David in this Psalm that we're going to look at this morning is struggling with the evil that's happening all around him.

And we're going to look at David's

prayer.

It's a prayer where he is invoking.

He wants to invoke judgment on his enemies.

Um, So we're going to look at Psalm 69 and specifically verses 19 to 33, but this is called an imprecatory Psalm.

This imprecatory Psalm is the opposite of Psalms like Psalm 23.

We could write songs all day and I have written a song on Psalm 23 and I love to sing that song.

There's just

so

much content

in that Psalm.

There's, yeah, so this imprecatory Psalm, the word imprecatory or the imprecatory Psalm comes from the Latin verb imprecory, which means to pray evil against or to invoke judgment upon or to call down a curse.

As we think about a beautiful Psalm, like Psalm 23, what are we to do with these Psalms? And there's quite a few of them in the book of Psalms.

Psalm 23, like I said, write songs all day long.

A Psalm like Psalm 103, we can just sing it at a minute, right? Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, right? You're rich in love, you're slow to anger.
