Well, if you are looking for good Christian ministry, what are you looking for? What should you look for? If you want ministry that's going to transform your life, what are you particularly looking for? And if you wanted to find this ministry in a good church, are there, are there telltale signs that will give you this kind of great ministry that you need for your life? You know, the telltale signs are probably not the quality of the coffee or of the smoke machine or the lighting rig, and it's definitely not the fashion sense of the worship leader or, even worse, the pastor.

Those things aren't going to guide you well in this quest to find great ministry.

Um, what is it that's going to help you find the ministry that you need to flourish as a, a follower with God? Well, let's bring it even closer to home.

What about a university Christian group? What kind of ministry should you look for in a campus ministry? We don't serve coffee, so you can't go off the quality of the coffee.

Don't have lighting rigs and smoke machines, uh, and please don't judge CBS on my fashion sense.

Perhaps it should not be all about you and what you're receiving, 'cause I know many of you want to be the person who serves others, giving this great kind of ministry.

If you want to do any amount of good ministry, what is it that you should be trying to do? What kind of ministry helps people to grow spiritually? What kind of ministry transforms human lives? What kind of ministry gives spiritual life and thriving? We are thinking about the shape of good Christian ministry today because that's what 2 Corinthians 3 is basically all about.

So let's work hard at understanding this chapter so that we will understand the ministry that we all need.

But even in doing that small comparison, the Apostle Paul seems to check himself as we move into chapter three.

Have a look at verse one: Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you or from you? Paul almost catches himself.

Can you hear it? He almost catches himself after making the comparison and says, "Oh, are we beginning to commend ourselves? Do we need other people to commend us?" So what is all of this commendation stuff about? Letters of recommendation are how humans try to build trust.

They're not a good way to build trust, but they're an attempt, aren't they? Letters of recommendation endorse a person as trustworthy, reliable, and we generally call these letters references.

I've written references for people trying to get into rental accommodation, I've written references for people looking for employment, I've written references for people even facing court matters.
