Ben GreenfieldHostI have had gut issues in the past, and I'll, I'll throw in two things that have been super helpful for me.

My parents used to tell me all the time that I was sick, 'cause I would go to bed with a stomach ache, like at least one night a week, and I used to drink a gallon to a gallon and a half of 2% milk, like from, from Albertsons, the plastic jug, per day.

And it wasn't until later that I found out that I'm pretty sensitive to dairy.

Like I've ridden my bike through Italy and stopped for gelato three times a day and wondered why I'd be on the toilet for like an hour and a half before dinner, you know, at the end of the day.

Eventually, you know, after trying everything like, "Heal my gut, what's wrong with it?" I just like cut way, cut dairy, cut cheese, and like almost overnight my, my gut just, just felt night and day better.

And then the other thing that I find really helps me, and we haven't really talked much about this besides maybe briefly touching on it on the drainage pathway piece, is really understanding the biomechanics of bowel movements, right? And my, my master's degree is in biomechanics, so, you know, perhaps a little bit biased, but the whole idea of like Squatty Potty, this great book by, uh, called, uh, Toilet Yoga, [laughs] I, I interviewed the author of that book, about like, like defecation positions and basically understanding that just like sitting on a toilet, especially a toilet that's too high tr- with, with your feet on the floor and your pelvic at the wrong angle, can actually really limit those drainage pathways.

And I have like, [laughs] basically I have like five different positions I poop in now, and it's just like-

Uh, I know that's gross to think about, and you just like fill the toilet bowl.

That also has been a game changer for me, just like understanding how to poop.
It's like a good yawn in the morning, when you hit it just right, like it feels good and relieving.
so I don't have a bunch of positions, but I do, I, I actually perch on my toilet like a gargoyle.
Like I, I had little things for my feet to sit on, but 'cause I'm an athlete, I can get to a deep squat.
I literally put my feet on the toilet seat and I sit into a full squat, like eight inches above the bowl, um, like a gargoyle.
But that actually does, it straightens the colon to allow stool to fall out with gravity in less force, less pressure, and it's a much better bowel movement every time.
