Summer Holiday Reading Recommendations

Kate, let's start with you because you've been thinking about this for one of your Book Club Review podcast episodes, I think.

So tell us your first holiday reading recommendation.

Well, I thought actually before I launch into my pick, I was thinking today about holiday reading.

And whether, I don't know listeners, whether you do read differently in the summer.

For me, it's kind of a strange question because I don't seek out different books for my summer reading.

I'm really just more excited to have a bit more time to read than I normally would have.

And the one thing I do do in the summer when I go away on holiday to this place on the East Coast where we go every year is I stop doing what I do the rest of the time, which is having loads of things on the go at once, always dipping into new things, usually two or three books on the go at a time.

And instead, I go to the little bookshop in the town.

I take no books with me.

I go into the bookshop and I select a book and then I buy that book and I take it away and I read that book, that one book.

And then I finish it and then I go back to the bookshop.

You know, big treat.

You go back again and I choose another one.

And when I'm away for those two weeks, that is how I try to read.

And it just fills me with such joy.

It's such a treat because I feel like I engage with the books more deeply and I think they have more of an impact on me.

So I was going to ask you guys, do you read differently in summer?

Yeah, that's a really interesting way of looking at it because what you've just described makes it sound like quite a nice old-fashioned reading experience where you had to choose carefully because that might be the only book you have.

And so let's make sure we pick the right book.

The

choice process is so intense.

Yeah.

I like you.

I don't pick different sorts of books.

Like I'm not looking for a particular light beach read necessarily on a holiday.
