It's like this...

Olivia Lang was described loneliness as this like icebox.

She said it much more elegantly than me, but she was surrounded by this glass icebox.

We have iceboxed ourselves, as you say, swaddled ourselves into these little... as P Moskowitz says, into these little muck mansions where we have all these distractions constantly and these conveniences that are meant to make our lives so much better.

But I wonder in a sense of writing and also making paintings, you know, is anybody in control? And what's that sort of theme of sort of mess and intention that I think comes through in the book quite a lot?

That's interesting because one of the podcasts that I've listened to was your conversation recently with Olivia Lang and Chantal Joffe.

And I think that came up as a kind of a, it was like they were able, the other was each able to express something about the medium that they couldn't themselves in their own given medium.

And I thought about that.
