everything so I like being a young girl growing up in Glasgow I went to like a theatre school since I was like 8 years old and I didn't actually come to rent until maybe like 12 and I remember watching the film for the first time and it was like me and a bunch of the girls from the theatre school that I was going to and we watched it for the first time and I have never had such a visceral reaction at 12 years old as well like you don't even really understand like all like life at that point but i just was like blown away and also just something resonated so deeply like looking at all these the lives of these people and you know joanne and maureen specifically like you know being a queer women like it was just so i alivening to me and I still remember the experience and I remember after it watching seeing the credits come up and just like crying like so profusely like I have that memory it got me like in the gut and then you know you do your thing you go to drama school you're a performer and you know I was carried with Rent throughout those times because you know the score is just inevitably unbelievable

I had all that.
Zoe SarnakGUEST

But in terms of musical theater, it was... obsessively listening to Rent in my bedroom fandom.
Zoe SarnakGUEST
14:04
And I wrote that my senior year, and it was produced at Harvard, and I then had people say to me, like, you could do this for a living, and it was like...

Wow.

41 MINS LATER

Zoe SarnakGUEST
54:47
Because part of what it means is that people believe in your show enough to go that crazy uphill battle and to put all these resources into something that you made from your heart.
Zoe SarnakGUEST
55:01
And all these people will come to see whatever happens from there, whether lots of money gets made or not, is something you cannot control.
Zoe SarnakGUEST
55:11
When I think about feeling like, oh, I wish Jonathan Larson had been alive to see the Broadway production of Rent.
Zoe SarnakGUEST
55:20
It's because what a moving thing to understand that something you cared so deeply about and pushed and didn't feel like whatever happened has reached all of these people and changed their lives.

So Rent Remix was an extreme reimagining of the gritty rock opera Rent.
Francesca BindiHOST
0:30
This was a shorter and much more glammed up, ultra modern version of the show with an all white colour palette and it had like a club pop concert vibe.
Francesca BindiHOST
0:39
It had a very short run and wasn't received as well as the original.
