Episode 320: Jessica Taylor’s Tattle Battle (Part 1)

Jesse, I see you have been obsessively tweeting about, well, a few things really this week, but Jason Arday is one of them.

You want to give us an update? This story has legs.

Let's put it that way.

Yeah, I mean, at a time when I'm... really under the gun in terms of book work.

I can always tell when your deadlines are coming up because that's when you tweet the most feverishly.

I'm not sure I've ever...

This is the most addicted and obsessed with the story I've been for a while.

And part of that is because after Arday died, reality split into two realities.

In one of these realities, the one we inhabit...

Mm-hmm.

It was a very sad end to the story.

Nobody wanted him to die, but he was a con man.

He was a fabulist.

He made all this shit up.

And instead of doing something normal and understandable, like conning an elderly person out of a pension, Jason Arday did something truly abnormal, which is con Cambridge out of a job.

Well, I think...

Cambridge was a very willing mark there.

But yeah.

And look, not every factual detail of every allegation had been tidied up in part because a lot of this stuff happened a long time ago.

But the basics were just objective matters of truth, including the extent of the plagiarism in his PhD thesis and the fact that he appeared to have fabricated some of his interviews.

Now, that was...

One reality was that, our reality, real reality.

And the other reality.

Reality, reality.

Reality, reality.
