After getting second the last two years, he finally pulled it off and won Angler of the Year.
And honestly, how crazy is this? So he's now the youngest Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year of all time at 21.
And to think...
He almost pulled this off the year before and the year before that.
Like, he almost could have been 19 or whatever he wanted.
But he's the youngest anyways.
What was really impressive to me, Jordan, just as a viewer, as a fan, was typically the Angler of the Year is decided on Friday or Saturday of the last event.
I can't remember one that came down to the final day.
In my recent memory, there was a really good chance that Corey Johnston could track down Trey McKinney and win the Angler of the Year title.
And, man, what he did was so impressive to me because of Corey Johnston's history of on that body of water.
We all know Trey is a phenomenal angler, but to me, the mental fortitude that he showed tackling Corey Johnston on the St. Lawrence River as tight as it was, knowing that any mistake he made was going to be crucial and would probably cost him the angler of the year.
That is what was the most impressive aspect of his victory to me.
If you were watching the live coverage, I mean, it was back and forth.
It's like, you know, day one, day two, you know, day three you know it was very close he ends up winning with a total of 735 angler of the year points and man handled it handled it like a true professional and had a game plan stuck to it really if he did get spun out it didn't show that much he did talk about you know some nerves final day some things like that but on the final day speaking of that watching the live coverage There was a long period of time where he really wasn't catching them whatsoever and didn't pull the plug on his area, man.
I mean, stayed in his rotation, stayed with his game plan, had confidence that he was not going to get a lot of bites, but they were going to be the right bites and ends up working out for Trey McKinney.
Super impressive AOI win and season in general.
I mean, let's be fair.
The talk was,
man, when it goes to scope, no scope.
These guys aren't going to be able to catch them.
Not the case.
I mean, think about this.
