Mercy to Mankind

In the Quran, Allah defines the Prophet Muhammad's entire purpose in one sentence.

Allah says, Wa maa arsalnaaka illaa rahmatan lil'aalameen.

We have not sent you except as a mercy to mankind, Surah Al-Anbiya verse one-o-seven.

Then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala describes the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam as a compassionate, emotional being whose heart is ever so worrying about us in the following verse.

Laqad jaa'akum rasoolun min anfusikum 'azeezun 'alaihima 'anittum, 'azeezun 'alaihima 'anittum hareesun 'alaikum bilmu'mineena ra'oofur raheem.

There has certainly come to you a messenger from among yourselves, like you.

Grievous to him is what you suffer.

He is deeply concerned for you.

And to the believers he is kind and merciful more than ever.

Surah At-Tawbah verse one to eight.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, is a mercy to even non-Muslims.

But Allah says, "And specifically to the believers as well." Because he knows the believers suffer more wh- when they want to practice their din and there are a lot of enmity.

And then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala describes the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's relationship to us.

Why did he send him as a human being? Why didn't he send him as an angel? The disbelievers of Quraysh, of, of Mecca at the time, the polytheists, the pagans, this is exactly what they said.

It's in the Quran.

That the effect of what means, uh, why, why a man from among us who eats food and walks in the markets? Why not an angel? And Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala replies that if you were to send an angel you would ask, "Why an angel?" Meaning, you can't emulate an angel.

An angel is not relatable to the human beings, 'cause we've got different needs.

So Allah sent a human.

Why? Allah says it in the Quran.

– There has certainly been for you in the messenger of Allah an excellent pattern of conduct.

Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21.

We're supposed to emulate him.

We're supposed to learn our life and our religion through his example.

And if we don't know his example, we don't have the authentic records to know him, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, then this verse becomes diminished, redundant.

How are we supposed to, our Lord, take your messenger as a good conduct if we throw away all the authentic reports and works of 1400 years of hadiths and the Sunnah, meaning the lifestyle and the practices which he taught this ummah that live with us today.
