So, uh, as I begin my discussion, many of you probably know a little bit about my story.

So at any rate, I've been pretty frank and open about my, um, uh, childhood, my exposure to domestic, uh, violence, and I would say my first memories came, um, somewhere in between the ages of three and four, and they were memories of pretty simple things.

Um, Mom and Dad yelling and screaming at each other, um, that, uh, escalating so that the, those dis- heated discussions became, uh, screaming and yelling.

Screaming and yelling usually was followed by flying pa- plates across the kitchen, uh, flying whiskey bottles, those kinda things.

So this small town, um, uh, mentality, everybody knows everybody, everybody knows everybody's business, all of that kinda thing.

And like I say, my first memories of domestic violence were It always kind of start out simple with a, a argument, a heated discussion that seems to constantly escalate instead of deescalate, and usually to the point of objects being thrown around, that kind of thing.

I can definitely remember my father backhanding my mother a few times up against a wall.

It was a protected space because, um, the bed frame, I was just, you know, at that size, I was just perfect to get underneath that bed frame and be protected by the bed.

Um, I was never, at least in any of my memories, I was never, um, the victim of the domestic abuse or violence at that time.
