So first up, where he is, he is in the land of darkness.
Have a look down with me please at verse 12 to 14.
So where he goes is verse 13 in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali.
His own people had become faithless and idolaters.
And so the Assyrians were sent by the Lord and they invaded these two regions.
They killed, looted and destroyed them.
The people of Zebulun and Naphtali lived in the darkness of enemy invasion, which was the darkness of God's judgment on them.
But this region is where Jesus begins his ministry, and he does it, verse 14, to fulfill what was said in Isaiah the prophet.
Because 750 years later now, in Jesus' day, the Assyrian Empire is just an archaeological memory, a ruin.
Zebulun and Naphtali are kind of back to normal.
But as regions, these two places, they represent the whole earth.
They represent the human experience living in the land of the shadow of death.
The point I want to make here is that we need to know where we are.
We need to know where we are.
On Mondays at All Souls, we sometimes have, before lunch together, mandatory training sessions.
And in June, we had a counter-terrorism and security training from an expert.
And we were being trained on how to identify suspicious behaviour and what to do about it.
And apparently, the best thing to do is to go up to them and say, which apparently frightens them off.
Who would have known? If you're new here today and a member of staff comes up to you to say hello after service, don't take it the wrong way.
They're probably just saying hello.
