In this episode I talk with Kate Winters, a wedding photographer working between Hawaii, California, and the UK. Her work is quiet, color-rich, and shot almost entirely on film. It feels calm and…
Kate WintersGuestThat does sound like quite a luxurious thing to do because think about the trends that you see in the wedding industry right now.
You see people getting married on Lake Carmel and what does everybody do? They hire a boat and they kind of sail out into the lake the day before and you get people jumping in the lake and kind of doing the whole kind of like pool party vibe.
Or you see people in Sicily and they're in the ocean and they're having seaside experiences with alcohol flowing and all this kind of stuff happening.
So it just sounds like it's kind of like the Hawaii equivalent of hiring a boat for the day.
Yeah.
That crowd control thing is huge.
Like that's enormous.
Like being able to speak to people like that and help them to feel beautiful and special and kind of like it really is still a party.
But you mentioned that, oh, there's a photographer there.
There's a DJ there.
You should not sell yourself short.
Like the thing that you did there is clearly not a skill set everybody has.
You've already kind of mentioned that you feel like it did help you to kind of develop as a photographer.
So
you mentioned also that the kind of timing, it was more of a case of the timing being difficult.
So it was a 10pm start late night.
What was the lifestyle like?
